One City Councillor wants to hear from Edmonton transit users – specifically, to find out whether they feel safe using public transit in the evening.

Ward 2 Councillor Bev Esslinger is asking for feedback from Edmontonians because she said she’s heard some women don’t feel safe on public transit at night.

“Anecdotally, that’s what I’m hearing, and I want to know if we have the evidence to back it up,” Esslinger said.

Transit Peace Officers say most calls are for nuisance complaints, such as public intoxication.

Officials with the Transportation Department said they’re gathering past research on safety for City Council – and a report is expected in March.
