Edmonton police have charged a man for his alleged role in a serious collision that left one person dead and another in hospital Sunday night.
Police said Monday that Larry McMurter had been charged with impaired driving causing death.
Investigators said the 63-year-old accused was driving the pickup truck that collided with a sedan at about 9 p.m. Sunday, at the intersection of Whitemud Drive and Winterburn Road.
It’s believed the smaller car, carrying four people, was travelling northbound when it was hit by the westbound truck.
A 72-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car died as a result of the crash, and a second woman from that vehicle was in stable condition in hospital.
McMurter is also charged with refusing to provide a breath sample.
In addition, police are investigating whether a power outage at the time of the collision may have affected traffic signals and street lights in the area.
