The Edmonton Oilers have found their new head coach – and the official announcement of the promotion was made at a news conference Wednesday morning.

At the news conference, Oilers GM Steve Tambellini sat next to the Ralph Krueger, the NHL team's new head coach.

The 52-year-old is a familiar face in Edmonton -- he's been an assistant coach with the Oilers for the past two seasons.

Before working with the Oilers, the Winnipeg native worked his way through playing and coaching in Europe, before leading the Swiss national team from 1997 to 2010.

Krueger is the 11th head coach in franchise history.

When it was announced last month that the contract of the team's former head coach Tom Renney would not be renewed, Tambellini said he was on the hunt for new direction behind the bench to get the most out of their top players.

Tambellini said that some of those players need to be better on a more consistent basis.

The new bench boss has his work cut out for him, last season, the Oilers finished 29th in the 30-team league, with a 32-40-10 record.
