Edmonton police said one man was in custody after shots were heard early Monday morning in the city’s west end.

Police said the 25-year-old male was found suffering from several gunshot wounds, lying on the ground, just before 1 a.m. Monday in the area of 184 Street and 93 Avenue.

Investigators said they believe the shooting was not random – police surrounded about two blocks in the area with police tape as officers combed the area for evidence.

Any witnesses to the incident are also asked to come forward.

“Certainly relatively quiet neighbourhood, and not prone to this sort of thing, so [we’re] certainly hopeful someone saw something, heard something, and will contact police or Crime Stoppers,” EPS spokesperson Scott Pattison said.

Anyone with information can call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567 or #377 on a mobile phone.

Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
