Edmonton police are investigating after a woman said she was assaulted in the city’s southwest early Tuesday morning.

Police said officers were called to a complaint of an alleged assault in the area of Lessard Road and Dechene Way.

It’s believed the incident took place at about 12:10 a.m. Tuesday – it was reported that a 30-year-old woman was walking on Lessard Road when a male suspect accosted her from behind.

According to police, the suspect ran toward the woman, grabbed her from behind and covered her mouth. The woman was able to break free, and the suspect fled on foot.

The woman was not hurt in the incident.

The suspect is described as a tall, skinny male. He was reportedly wearing a loose grey hooded sweater, a black face cover and gloves.
