Police in northern Alberta are investigating after an incident took place at the Fort McMurray airport Friday.

RCMP told CTV News officers were investigating a threat at the airport – and one male was in custody.

Wood Buffalo RCMP said on Friday just after 12:30 p.m. officers were called to the airport on reports of a threat.

The airport was evacuated as a precaution, and a lone male was arrested for making comments in reference to a dangerous device.

Police said threats made against the safety of an aircraft or its occupants are criminal code offences.

It was later determined the public was not in danger during the incident.

Officials with the airport said about 300 passengers on four flights were impacted by the incident, but other travel delays could occur as a result.

Just after 2 p.m. the airport tweeted that RCMP had cleared the airport, and passengers were being allowed to return to the building.
