Emergency crews in a town southwest of Edmonton are investigating, after the roof of the curling rink collapsed Friday afternoon.

A spokesperson with the Town of Drayton Valley said a section of the roof of the curling rink section of the Drayton Valley Omniplex collapsed at about 1 p.m. Friday.

Officials said no injures had been reported, and the fire department was on the scene to secure the building.

ATCO Gas responded to the scene, as a water leak and gas leak were detected in the area where the collapse occurred – the water was shut off a short time later, and ATCO crews successfully shut off gas to the area.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation.

Any events planned to be held in the Omniplex have been suspended until further notice, the town said.

Drayton valley is about 140 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
