RCMP in northern Alberta have laid charges in connection to the death of a man in his 20s earlier this week.

Police said Wednesday that the Medical Examiner had confirmed the man found dead Tuesday in a Slave Lake home was Brett Cardinal, 26.

As a result, Leonard Willier, 30, is facing charges of second degree murder, and assault with a weapon.

The investigation began Tuesday, after officers were called to the home – and found the body of a man inside.

A second victim was also injured in the incident, but he suffered non-life threatening injuries.

It’s believed the accused and the two victims knew each other, and the incident wasn’t random – none of the people involved lived in the home where the incident took place.

The accused remains in custody, and has been scheduled to appear in a Slave Lake courtroom Wednesday, March 13.

RCMP said Victim’s Services in Slave Lake are supporting witnesses, and the family of the victim.
