Several Alberta RCMP detachments issued travel warnings on Saturday claiming roads were not suitable for driving.

Lac La Biche RCMP advised local highways were in extremely poor condition including Highway 881, Highway 36, Highway 55, Highway 858, Highway 663.

Officials said snow in the area caused roads to be covered, reduced visibility and caused the formation of black ice.

A no travel advisory was issued for the area.

RCMP said they had responded to several vehicle collisions in the Lac La Biche area including three fatal collisions.

Lac La Biche is located about 250 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.

Highway 63

Police also asked drivers to avoid travelling on Highway 63 north of Wandering River.

Officials said the road was slick and had caused many drivers to lose control.

Several vehicles in the area were seen parked on the side of the road and larger vehicles reported they were unable to move.

Highway 21

A collision forced Mounties to close down a section of Highway 21 near Leduc.

RCMP said the highway between Airport Road and Highway 625 was closed down.

There were no further details released.
