Edmonton police said a suspect, believed to have had a hand in a number of arsons in the city’s southwest in recent days, was in custody.

The investigation started, after officers were called to an alley in the area of 109 Street and 51 Avenue at about 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 20 after a fire was reported. When police arrived, they found the remnants of a small fire.

The next morning at about 6 a.m., officers were called to the same area and found a Jeep that had been set on fire. More than an hour later, police were called to the scene of a fire, where a motorhome had burned in the alley.

Then on Tuesday, at about 3 a.m., officers were called to the same alley and found a garage and a fence that had also been set on fire.

Hours later, at about 8 a.m., officers patrolling the area came across a pile of wood and a shed in flames.

When officers approached they found a suspicious male leaving the area on foot, after some investigation he was taken into custody.

Charges are now pending against the 23-year-old male, who is believed to be responsible for all of the arsons in that area.

Police are still investigating.
