As their investigation into a shooting that occurred near Breton, southwest of Edmonton, over the weekend continues, RCMP have laid multiple charges against the man taken into custody the day after the incident.

Police have laid a dozen charges against 38-year-old Bradley Wayne Beaver, including:

  • 3 counts of attempted murder
  • 3 counts of reckless use of a firearm
  • 2 counts of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life to prevent arrest
  • 2 counts of endangering life of a Peace Officer

The charges stem from an 18 hour standoff that started when RCMP were called to a rural home west of Breton around 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, after a 35-year-old man was reportedly shot.

Police found the man outside the home, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries, but there was no indication of how many people were inside the home or who they were.

RCMP locked down the area, secured a perimeter, and evacuated neighbours from their homes.

Gunfire was exchanged between the people inside the home and police at about 3:30 a.m. the next morning, two RCMP members were injured in the exchange and airlifted to hospital in Edmonton via STARS with non-life threatening injuries.

A man and a woman were arrested at about 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, December 4 – they were both suffering from non-life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

Beaver has since been released from hospital and is currently in custody, and his first court appearance has been scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, December 14.

The woman who was taken into custody immediately following the standoff was interviewed and later released with no charges.

One of the two officers injured was released on Monday, the other officer, with 30-years on the job, was expected to be released Thursday.
