First and second year medical students at the University of Alberta will soon be on their way to Kenya to provide ceramic water filters to rural villagers.

Students gathered at Foote Field Saturday afternoon for the second annual Kenya Run for Water.

Proceeds from the run will be used to send first and second year students to rural regions of Kenya where they'll provide locals with ceramic water filters and ceramic stoves.

Organizers say the water filters are an easy way to get clean drinking water to those who need it.

"People are being pushed to be more and more suspicious of water sources, which may not be the safest for them to drink, which may not be the safest for them to drink," said project member Abraam Isaac. "It's especially dangerous for...children under the age of five who suffer a lot of diarrheal morbidity."
