CTV Edmonton was honoured with two awards Saturday at the Radio Television Digital News Association's National Awards Gala.

CTV Edmonton took home the national award for best continuing coverage for the Slave Lake fires as well as the national award for best newscast in a large market also covering the Slake Lake fires.

"We are honoured to be acknowledged by the broadcasting industry for our work on this emotional story," said Dan Kobe, CTV Edmonton's director of news and public affairs.

"Edmontonians and Albertans trust us to deliver important information during emergencies. It's a responsibility we take very seriously. We want to thank the people of Slave Lake for allowing us to tell their story and for continuing to allow us to tell the story of rebuilding the town."

The RTDNA awards are handed out annually and voted upon by broadcast journalists and news managers in Canada.

The CTV News family took home a total of 13 national awards in addition to 34 regional honours awarded earlier this year.

CTV Edmonton won the regional awards for best newscast, best spot news and best continuing coverage for the Prairie Region in April.
