The Grande Prairie Warriors high school football team that lost four players in a tragic car crash last week won an emotional game.

It was the first game for the team after Matt Deller, 16, Tanner Hildebrand, 15, Vincent Stover, 16 and Walter Borden-Wilkens, 15 were killed on October 22.

More than 1,000 people turned out wearing the team's colours black and orange to show their support for the game on October 29.

Even fans of the opposing team, the Sexsmith Sabres wore Warrior colours.

"It's amazing to see them coming and wanting to wear Warrior orange," Shelley Judd said, "It's really nice."

Judd is the aunt of the Zak Judd, the lone survivor of the crash. He remains in a medically-induced comma at an Edmonton hospital.

Zak's brother, Lewis, flew from his brother's bedside to play in the game.

"The whole game I couldn't get him off my mind," he said.

"To be honest I was scared I was going to break down in the middle of the field. It was a lot to take in."

In the end the Warriors walked away with a 40-0 win over the Sabres.

Brendan Holubowich, 21, has been charged in the case. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday, October 31.

A public memorial service is planned for October 30.
