A funeral was held Tuesday for two little boys found dead inside a north-end townhouse last week.

The boys were laid to rest during a memorial in the Kehewin Cree Nation, the community where the boys are originally from.

"You can only do so much to comfort them and you know give them hope that those two children -- they're angels and they're in heaven," said Father Rene Realuyo who presided over the funeral.

Police have laid two counts of first degree murder charges against the boys' father, 31-year-old Jason Bruce Cardinal.

Autopsies on the boys were performed last Tuesday but a cause of death hasn't been released. Police were originally dispatched to the townhouse on Dec. 19th after receiving a call from the Child and Family Services crisis unit.

An ambulance was also called to treat non-life-threatening injuries to the 31-year-old father. The names of the victims are protected by law. The media can only identify the accused because of a special provincial order issues a few days before Christmas.

Cardinal is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 5th.
