Police continue to investigate a series of collisions over the thanksgiving weekend that left one man dead and several others in hospital.

Seven serious injury collisions took place between suppertime Sunday and early Monday morning and police believe all of them involved an impaired driver.

Police released new details about one collision that happened on 156 Street and Mark Messier Trail just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Investigators believe alcohol, speed and not wearing a seatbelt were all factors in the collision.

The 40-year-old driver is in serious condition in hospital after he lost control of the minivan and hit a centre median before rolling the vehicle. The man was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

A 22-year-old woman is facing impaired driving charges following a single vehicle rollover at about 3:20 a.m. Monday near 94 Avenue and 82 Street.

Police say the 20-year-old passenger, who was not believed to be wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious head injuries after she was partially ejected from the vehicle.

Renee Cantin, 22, was charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and operating a vehicle while over the legal blood-alcohol level.

Investigations into several other collisions over the weekend continue.

Police believe alcohol played a factor in a six-vehicle collision on 99 Street and Saskatchewan Drive that sent several people to hospital early Sunday morning.

A paramedic supervisor was sent to hospital after his EMS truck was hit by a car that was turning left at the intersection of Mill Woods Road and 91 Street.

A 19-year-old man was killed after he lost control of a green Ford pickup truck while turning a corner on Argyle Road and 86 Street. The driver was killed after he smashed into a wooden utility pole.

Police believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol and may also have taken the truck without the owner's consent.

The next collision happened at about 8 p.m. near Jasper Avenue and 96 Street when a pedestrian was hit by an oncoming vehicle. The woman was taken to hospital with multiple injuries. Her condition is not known.

Another collision early Sunday morning at 75 Street and 90th Avenue involving a few different vehicles sent two people to hospital, with one man in critical condition.

Two other men have potentially life threatening injuries after the driver launched a Cadillac into some bushes on Groat Road, south of 107 Avenue. The car became airborne and flew about 100 metres. It is not known whether the driver had been drinking, but speed is believed to be a factor.

A semi-truck driver who was hauling a load of alcohol is facing impaired driving charges. Drivers travelling near him along 118 Avenue and 46 Street called police after they noticed he was swerving.

Police pulled the driver off the road at around midnight after a breathalyzer reading showed he was three times over the legal blood-alcohol limit.
