RCMP in Red Deer are investigating, after shots rang out late Wednesday afternoon in a central neighbourhood leaving one man in hospital.

Red Deer RCMP said officers were called to the area of Kerry Wood Mews at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday – after receiving a report that one man had been shot.

The man was rushed to hospital in Calgary, where he remained in critical condition Thursday morning.

Investigators said the shooting was not a random act, and there is no risk to public safety.

RCMP said they were seeking witnesses to the shooting.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting, and heard or saw anything related to the incident, is asked to call Red Deer RCMP 403-343-5575.
