A 37-year-old man from Calgary was found dead Thursday morning by a Parks Canada search dog.
The man was reported missing Wednesday after an avalanche swept an area south of the town of Canmore on Spray Lakes Road.
The man was in the company of another hiker who witnessed the avalanche. An initial search for the hiker started Wednesday but was called off due to nightfall.
The search resumed Thursday morning by helicopter avalanche control and Park Canada's canine unit along with the RCMP.
The victim was located within the first hour of search Thursday morning.
The man's identity is not being released at this time.
RCMP are reminding people that the snow pack in mountainous regions is very unstable and the avalanche hazard is extreme.
14 people have been killed in Western Canada this winter. Just recently, a man from Rycroft, Alberta was a victim of an avalanche in the B.C. interior.
Eight snowmobilers died in late December in a series of avalanches near the southeastern B.C. community of Fernie.
