The MLA who crossed the floor from the Progressive Conservatives to the Wildrose Party, and back again is planning to leave politics, and won’t seek to represent his Airdrie seat in the next provincial election.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page Monday evening, Rob Anderson said he had met with Premier Jim Prentice before Christmas, and told him he planned to not seek re-election.

Anderson said he, and his wife Anita, planned to pursue careers in the private sector, and spending more time as a family – the couple has four sons aged 5, 7, 8, and 10-years-old.

On Tuesday, Prentice posted a statement of his own on his Facebook page, and said he understood Anderson’s decision, and thanked him “for his commitment to public service.”

The announcement came weeks after Anderson, along with then-Wildrose Party leader Danielle Smith and seven other MLAs of the same party crossed the floor to join the governing PCs, led by Prentice.

Anderson was first elected as a PC MLA in 2008, but he crossed the floor to join the Wildrose Party in 2010.
