A state funeral will be held next Saturday, March 5th, for former Alberta premier Don Getty.
The service is set to take place at 11 a.m. at the All Saints' Anglican Cathedral in northwest Edmonton.
Memorial books have been set up in the rotunda of the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton and at McDougall Centre in Calgary.
The public can also send condolence messages online.
Getty, Alberta’s 11th premier, died yesterday at the age of 82 in an Edmonton long-term care facility after suffering from multiple illnesses for the last couple of years.
He was elected as a Conservative in 1967 and left office in 1992. Getty’s political accomplishments included defusing a land dispute with the Lubicon Cree and creating the Family Day holiday.
Getty also won two Grey Cup championships during a decade playing with the Edmonton Eskimos.
Funeral details are expected to become available early next week.

Thoughts and prayers with the Getty family. Don was a great advocate for Edmonton and Alberta. Even on the football field, he fought for us.
