Police are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect, and are warning Edmontonians to be vigilant, after two random attacks on the south side of the city over the last two weeks.

Police are investigating two random assaults that occurred in the area of 82 Avenue – and the same suspect is believed to be involved.

The first attack took place on Tuesday, March 20 – police said a woman was approached from behind while she walked home at about 11:30 pm in the area of 82 Avenue and 87 Street.

The 57-year-old woman was then pushed to the ground, when she screamed, the suspect fled towards 82 Avenue.

Then, on March 28, police said a 31-year-old woman was walking down 82 Avenue at 84 Street, when she was also approached in a similar way and the suspect attempted to push her to the ground.

As in the first case, the woman screamed, and the assailant ran away.

In both cases, the women were not harmed.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • Between 167 cm (5'6") and 183 cm (6') tall
  • Weighs approximately 68 kg (150 lb)
  • At the time of the assaults, he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt

"We are sending out this warning because we are very concerned about these two random assaults," EPS Detective Dale Myhre said in a press release. "We want to remind all citizens to be extra vigilant while walking at night, to be aware of their surroundings at all times, and to report suspicious persons or activity to police immediately."
