Police are warning the public of what they call a 'black money' scam making the rounds in Edmonton.

Investigators say two male suspects have approached several businesses in Edmonton posing as political refugees from an African country.

The suspects claim they want to buy valuable items with cash, but say they can only pay with money made from special paper, that shows as currency after being washed in a special solution.

And after paying for the item, the victim finds the money is simply plain white or black paper.

"We ask that if anyone is approached with this scam to just walk away and report it to police," said Det. Dennis Tetreault with the Edmonton Police Service "

The scam can be reported to the EPS non-emergency complaint line by calling 780-423-4567.
