Police in Hobbema have arrested and charged a man in connection to the shooting death of a woman, dating back to the fall of 2011.

Hobbema RCMP said Wednesday that Shelby Minde, 20, had been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the slaying of Chelsea Yellowbird, 23, on September 5, 2011.

Yellowbird was shot at a home on the Samson Cree First Nation town site – she was taken to hospital in Wetaskiwin, but was pronounced dead.

RCMP said the arrest came as a result of a two-year investigation, in early September, 2013, police said they had found new leads in the case – and were taking pictures of the scene again, and searching water near the Battle River Bridge for evidence.

Minde remains in custody, and will appear in a Wetaskiwin Provincial Courtroom.
