Hinton RCMP are investigating, after remains were found in a remote location earlier this week.
Police said a group of people were riding quads Tuesday, April 23, when they discovered the remains.
That discovery was made in an area of Brule, a hamlet located about 20 kilometres west of Hinton.
The group reported their discovery to police just after 1 p.m.
Officers responded, and have been investigating the find ever since.
“One of our challenges is the remoteness of this particular site,” RCMP Cpl. Carol McKinley said in a phone interview from Grande Prairie. “We have been using both helicopters and quads to move resources in and out of the scene.”
Investigators said there is a number of missing persons’ cases in the area; however, none of those will be re-visited until RCMP confirms the remains are human.
It’s not clear how long it will take to come to that conclusion.
