One person has died after an early morning fire in west Edmonton.

Fire crews were called out to a home on 92 Avenue and 156 Street around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

Officials said there were four people at home when the fire started, three managed to escape and call 911.

When crews arrived they found the house filled with smoke and located a 62-year-old deceased man in a basement bedroom.

Police said they believe the death was accidental.

The cause is still under investigation but officials said there was significant damage to the home.
