RCMP in Grande Prairie are investigating a hit and run collision that left a 16-year-old dead Saturday.

Officials said the incident happened around 2 a.m. on 99 Avenue and Resources Road in that city.

Police believe the 16-year-old female pedestrian was struck while attempting to cross Resources Road.

The young victim, Cassidy Dietrich, was taken to hospital but died.

The southbound 2012 Chevrolet Silverado that hit the teen fled the scene but was later located abandoned.

No arrests have been made.

Investigators said they were looking to speak to the driver of an orange-coloured vehicle that was eastbound and nearly struck by the Silverado at the time.
