RCMP west of Edmonton have laid charges against a high school teacher, after a months-long investigation into allegations of sexual assault by a male teacher.

Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP said James Richard Pratt, 43, had been charged with sexual assault, and sexual exploitation.

The charges came after RCMP received a complaint in February, and launched an investigation into allegations of sexual assault by a male teacher.

Investigators said the female victim was a student of the accused.

RCMP said Pratt was  removed from his teaching position in February.

Pratt was arrested June 12, and has since been released on a recognizance, on condition of having no contact with the victim.

He was set to appear in court Monday morning.
