Police confirmed Thursday that the remains of a man who was reported missing over the summer were found earlier this week.

Barrhead RCMP said human remains were found during a ground search of an area about 65 kilometres northwest of the place Valentine Degenhardt’s vehicle was found off of Highway 32 between Whitecourt and Swan Hills.

The remains were discovered Monday, and were sent to the Medical Examiner who confirmed they were Degenhardt Thursday.

Earlier this week, three people were charged in connection to this case.

On Tuesday, RCMP said Norman “John” Jerrett, 46, had been charged with first degree murder, break and enter and offering an indignity to a body.

In addition, Norma McAllister, 45, had been charged with accessory after the fact and break and enter, while Carl McAllister had been charged with accessory after the fact.

Degenhardt was reported missing to Morinville RCMP July 19, after he was last seen in Barrhead two days earlier.

All three accused are in custody, and were set to appear in court November 26.
