Edmonton police confirmed Thursday that two individuals had been charged on connection to a fatal stabbing in early April near the Coliseum LRT Station.

Police said on April 11, at about 3:40 p.m. an 18-year-old male was robbed and assaulted by Diodone Songa, 18, and John Vyizigiro, 19, at the Coliseum LRT Transit station.

A few minutes later, the pair approached a 19-year-old male near the 118 Avenue overpass beside the Coliseum LRT Transit Station. It’s alleged this male was also robbed and assaulted by the two, but this time police allege Songa stabbed the victim in the chest.

The male was treated and transported to hospital where he remained in critical condition, before succumbing to his injuries on April 14, 2017.

On Thursday, police said Songa had been charged with second degree murder, robbery, attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, Vyizigiro is facing charges of robbery, assault, assault with a weapon and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

CTV News has identified the victim in this stabbing as Brandon Provencher, 19. His mother confirmed charges were coming to two suspects Wednesday.
