Following a string of arsons in the city’s south side, police said Wednesday that a man in his 20s was facing charges.

Police said Wilhelm Weinmann, 23, has been charged with five counts of arson to the property of others, disguise with intent and possession of incendiary material.

Weinmann was arrested Tuesday after police were called to five fires in three days in the Pleasantview neighbourhood.

Between early Sunday morning and Tuesday morning, police were called to five fires; one damaged a Jeep, another a motorhome, a fence was also damaged in another fire.

Officers on foot patrol came across a pile of wood and a shed on fire at about 8 a.m. Tuesday, and they saw a suspicious male leaving the scene. He was arrested, and officially charged Wednesday.

The Edmonton Police Service Arson Unit is still investigating.
