A 71-year-old Edmonton man has been killed in a quad collision in northern Alberta.

Slave Lake RCMP were called to the collision Wednesday morning in the area of Smith, Alta.

RCMP say the man rolled his ATV and died on the scene overnight.

He was not wearing a helmet.

The collision occurred on West Fawcett Lake Road approximately 17 kilometres west of the town of Smith.

Police say alcohol appears to be a factor in the incident.

They are reminding operators to be safe, especially leading into the long weekend.

This is the fourth motor vehicle collision fatality in Slave Lake in the last month alone.

Two serious collisions took place last week involving all-terrain vehicles in the Edmonton area as well, one of them fatal, which also prompted warnings from police asking operators to drive safely.
