Edmonton police have been investigating an incident that left one man dead overnight.
Officers were called out just after 11 p.m. Saturday to 188 Street and 122 Avenue where two men were fighting.
“As a result of that fight, one of the individuals had gone unconscious and was unresponsive,” Insp. Brian Nowlan explained.
The man, believed to be in his late 40s or early 50s, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
“The other individual, another male believed to be in his 50s, was placed under arrest at that time and taken in and the investigation has been turned over to homicide at this time,” Nowlan said.
He added that there were no weapons involved in the fight but that the two men did know each other.
“I’m not going to get into the relationship but I can tell you that they are known to each other and have known each other for quite some time.”
A neighbor said the two men had moved in a couple of years ago.
“They lived here the last couple of years and everything has been really quiet,” Dwayne Wlasichuk said.
“They seemed like really nice guys.
“They were always willing to come by and give you a hand and help you out doing anything.”
Wlasichuk said he was sad to hear about the incident.
“They were both really nice guys and I hate to see anybody get hurt especially your close neighbours that always came out and gave you a hand.”
The investigation is ongoing.
