Edmonton police said an investigation was underway, after officers were called to a west side home on reports of an assault, but arrived to find flames in the home.
Police were first called to the home, located in the area of 184 Street and 95A Avenue at about 3 a.m. Friday – after an assault was reported.
When officers arrived, two floors of the duplex were engulfed in flames.
The fire department was called, and the fire was quickly brought under control – no one was in the house when crews arrived, but police said one person suffered minor injuries in the initial assault.
“Upon arriving on scene police observed that the house was on fire, so fire was called to put out the blaze,” Cst. Keekan Everett said. “From there, a criminal investigation is underway.”
Edmonton Fire Rescue said an investigation into the blaze was underway.
“Our investigators are doing their investigation right now, so once that’s done we will have a better understanding of what went on,” Capt. Ron Pardis with Edmonton Fire Rescue said.
The home was heavily damaged, but firefighters managed to contain the blaze to one side of the duplex.
