Edmonton police said Friday that a U.S. man had been extradited to Canada, to face charges stemming from the city’s 19th homicide of 2015.

Police said Jason Steadman, 41, an American citizen, has been arrested in Canada on first degree murder and arson charges.

Edmonton Police said U.S. Federal Marshalls turned him over to EPS Homicide Detectives at the Douglas border crossing in British Columbia on Thursday, September 22.

He was then arrested on Canada-wide warrants for first degree murder and arson.

Steadman has been charged in connection to the death of Dwayne Demkiw.

Demkiw was last seen leaving his workplace, in the area of 149 Street and 128 Avenue in Edmonton at about 4 a.m. on May 31, 2015.

Later that morning, his vehicle was found burning and abandoned in Calgary. Nearly a year after his disappearance, his remains were found near Innisfail, Alberta.

Steadman is scheduled to appear in a Vancouver courtroom Friday morning.
