After several days, officials with the Correctional Service of Canada said the lockdown at the Edmonton Institution had been lifted.

The lockdown was put in place on August 15, after an inmate was assaulted.

At the time, Edmonton Police said officers were called to the federal institution at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, August 14, after a 22-year-old male was found suffering from stab wounds.

The man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

While the facility was locked down, staff carried out searches to find contraband – officials said a number of unauthorized items were found during the searches.

As the lockdown has been lifted, normal operations have resumed, as have visits to the facility.
