RCMP west of Edmonton said one man was in custody Thursday, and had been charged in the death of a man who suffered serious injuries in an alleged bar fight last week.

On Thursday, RCMP said Sean Steven Kovacs-Harkins, 19, had been charged with manslaughter.

The development came two days after Travis Colby, 30, died – a few days after he was injured while allegedly trying to break up a fight outside of the bar he worked at as a bouncer.

The incident took place at 2 a.m. Saturday outside of The Old Stony Bar, when Colby tried to step into a fight, another man punched him in the side of the head, knocking Colby unconscious.

He was rushed to hospital, but never regained consciousness – he was declared clinically brain dead Tuesday morning.

Since her son’s death, Shirley Colby has placed a bouquet of flowers outside of the bar where Colby was injured; now, Shirley and her husband Milo call their son, a protector.

“No matter who it was, he would give himself, help anybody,” Milo said.

“He had a heart of gold, sparkling blue eyes, if someone needed help he was there,” Shirley said.

Shirley said her son has continued to help others, even in death.

“We donated a lot of Travis’ organs to help other people because that’s what he was about,” she said.

As for the suspect in the case, the couple hopes justice will be served.

“He has done wrong, and should be punished accordingly and I hope he does get it,” Shirley said.

“I hope a lot of young people out there realize they have to think before they react,” Milo said.

Colby’s parent’s told CTV News he was the father of two little girls, and his family has set up a trust for his daughters at the Royal Bank in Spruce Grove, where donations can be made.
