The CFL commissioner's office is investigating the helmet-to-helmet hit involving Eskimos linebacker Agustin Barrenechea and Blue Bombers quarterback Kevin Glenn in Friday's 30-23 Edmonton win.
Glenn completed a pass to Jamie Stoddard for the two-point convert late in the fourth quarter when he was hit by Barrenechea. A fight ensued after Bombers receiver Romby Bryant shoved Barrenechea.
Bryant, as well as teammates Dominic Picard and Jason Goss, were ejected and Barrenenchea penalized.
Barrenechea claims he didn't mean to lead with his head on the play.
''I try to play with good sportsmanship,'' Barrenchea told the Edmonton Sun following the game. ''I try to play within the rules. I talked to (Glenn) after the game and he said he understands. Nothing was meant by that.''
Head coach Doug Berry said he didn't see the hit but didn't like the reactions by Picard or Bryant.
''I know these guys. I know they have (fight),'' Berry told the Winnipeg Free Press. ''They don't have to prove anything to me. They don't have to prove anything to their teammates. We all know how we are together in this locker-room. We need to be more disciplined and not let that stuff happen out there.''
Glenn, who was 18-of-26 for 268 yards, two TDs and one interception, had minor concussion-like symptoms and wasn't available to talk to reporters after the game.
''When you see someone doing something like that, it's like someone coming and doing something to your family,'' Bombers guard Ryan Donnelly said. ''You take exception to it more than probably someone else. It's like if someone hurts your son or your daughter.
''Kevin's like family, we protect him. He's like our Private Ryan. We've got to make sure he doesn't get hurt.''
The process for such investigations includes reviewing the play with the players and clubs involved. Once that process has been completed, a decision on disciplinary action will be made.
The Bombers travel to Edmonton for a rematch next Saturday.
