A former member of city council has thrown his hat back into the ring – and is once again running for a spot on council.

Mike Nickel announced Wednesday that he is seeking election as councillor for Ward 11.

Previously, Nickel served for one term as councillor for Ward 5, he was defeated by Councillor Don Iveson in 2007 when he ran for a second term.

Nickel is the latest to declare himself a candidate for council in the upcoming election – a number of sitting councillors have declared their intentions to seek reelection in their respective wards: Amarjeet Sohi in Ward 12, Ben Henderson in Ward 8, and Dave Loken in Ward 3.

However, the look of council is changing drastically, with Councillors Jane Batty and Kim Krushell, and Mayor Stephen Mandel, not seeking reelection.

Edmontonians are set to head to the polls October 21.
