Days after two people were found dead at a Fort Saskatchewan home; one of the deceased is being remembered by loved ones who are pledging to keep her legacy alive.
On Friday, just before 6:30 a.m., RCMP were called to a home on Alderson Close in Fort Saskatchewan after receiving reports of gunshots.
Two people were found dead – one of them has been identified as Colleen Sillito, 46, family members identified the other individual, a 54-year-old man, as Sillito’s ex-fiance Paul Jacob.
Over the weekend, a GoFundMe page was set up by Sillito’s boyfriend Michael Cameron, in an effort to help Sillito’s five children. In a tribute over the weekend, Cameron said Sillito was killed in what he called a murder-suicide.
“We were just getting started,” Cameron said in an interview with CTV News.
Cameron said the couple found each other online, and hit it off after their second date – both were divorced, both were athletic. Cameron credits Sillito for making his life ‘beautiful’ for the five months they were together.
“She knew how to live, she brought me so much and I want to honour that,” Cameron said.
Court documents show Sillito’s former fiancé had been accused of uttering death threats and assault – but those charges were withdrawn when a peace bond was signed.
RCMP have not confirmed whether Jacob shot and killed Colleen before taking his own life.
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit is still investigating, an update is expected Tuesday.
A celebration of Sillito’s life has been planned for Friday, October 9 at 3 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Sherwood Park Chapel, 2090 Sherwood Drive in Sherwood Park. The celebration is planned to continue that evening a 6 p.m. at the Dow Centennial Centre in Fort Saskatchewan.
