The Edmonton Oilers have named Andrew Ference as their new team captain.
The 34-year-old is entering his 14th NHL season, his first as an Oiler.
He was drafted in the eighth round in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
The defenceman has tallied up 193 points and 645 penalty minutes in his 760 game history.
Originally from Edmonton, Ference has played with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Calgary Flames and Boston Bruins.
Most recently he has served as assistant captain for the Bruins.
Ference has also been involved in the community and started the November Project, which is a workout program that gets residents involved in various types of physical activities in public locations.
He will be the 14th captain in the team’s history.
