EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a shooting in the Jasper Park neighbourhood they believe to be a "random" incident.

Police told CTV News Edmonton that they responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at approximately 5:20 p.m. Friday in the area of 89 Avenue and 149 Street.

Two people, a 25-year-old man and a 35-year-old man, were taken to hospital by EMS. As of Saturday, they remain in hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses told police a suspect was seen running away from the scene on foot after the incident. The suspect, a 50-year-old man, was in police custody after 8 p.m., EPS said.

In an update on Saturday, EPS told CTV News Edmonton that investigators believe the incident involved two random shootings done by the same suspect. 

Police believe the 50-year-old shot a man while he walked to his vehicle in the parking lot of the strip mall and then shot a different man who was sitting in his vehicle nearby.

Charges against the 50-year-old man are pending, police say. There is no known motive for the shootings at this time.
